Third Space Walk

About Mirjana Mitrovic
German visual artist whose practice mainly focuses on new technologies, women, and geography.

Team
María Narezo - Designer

Mirjana’s work often revolves around the portrayal of women’s lives -particularly, in relation to their urban surroundings. It was in this manner that we met: we’re both members of Tejiendo Ciudad, an artistic collective between Mexico City and Berlin founded by Carolina Alba.

During her PhD at Universität der Künste Berlin about the flâneuse and the digitalization of the urban space, Mirjana curated Third Space Walk, an exhibition about flâneuserie in three spaces: Mexico City, Berlin and the virtual space.

Me and María Narezo -who’s also a member of Tejiendo Ciudad- designed the visual assets for the exhibition’s communication.

By working separately on the research, brainstorm and initial sketching, both me and María explored different approaches with no visual/conceptual cross-contamination.

The selected concept was the one where the interstices were represented through colored, low-opacity overlaps.

After Mirjana chose this concept, we developed proposals in the format of postcards/digital banners. Once a proposal was chosen by her, we worked on both the digital and printed materials.

Moodboard | María. Focus on flâneuserie and the ways of the city.

Moodboards | Luisa. Focus on flâneuserie and transparency overlaps, interstices.

Postcard. Size: DIN A6.

Digital postcards; August and general versions.

The design shows maps of both cities, overlapped. They obtain their physicality through a texture of torn paper. Both a digital and analog photograph were used in the collage, showing aesthetically similar buildings found in Berlin and Mexico City.

The maps, with their “digital green” accents, can easily be associated with chips and early devices’ user interfaces.

More about the exhibition can be read on Mirjana Mitrovic’s website in this link.
