During August 2025 I was artist in residence at Casa Snowapple (Wilderness residency); my resulting project was a body of 35 mm photographs of the river Magdalena, the last river in Mexico City.
The series is composed of four parts: the start of the river, the river flowing, its tubed part and its stagnant section.
I used one film roll for each part of the river: these were each submerged in a soup made of water from that river section, as well as plants, soil and/or debris found in situ.
The aim of this project was to travel along the river and capture it both visually and in essence, made tangible in the soup’s marks -or absence of them-.
Before starting the journey along the river, I researched it from various angles: its current and historical role in Mexico City; its presence in art; its importance for the local ecosystem; its media and political appeareances; and the plans -sadly ignored- for its integral restoration.
The body of work consists of 35 mm photographs, color and black and white, framed.
