Chocolate caliente

Ongoing series of watercolor and gouache painting exploring chocolate’s important role in Mexican culture: its timelessness, evolution and diversity.

The series emphasizes the ancestral connection that chocolate facilitates due to its presence in both current and past rituals.

In Mexico’s history, chocolate used to represent strength and power for Aztec warriors; later on, it became a key component in social gatherings for the nobility.

Currently, both in Mexico and around the world, preparing a cup of hot chocolate is a common ritual for a person who is seeking a moment of comfort.
